Routing, Roles, and Fault Tolerance
Each database in the cluster is hosted on several members, and each hosting member plays a role for that database.
For a given database, every primary holds a writable copy and one of them is elected leader. The leader accepts writes and replicates them to the followers. Secondaries hold read-only copies and never become leader.
